Using Microsoft Edge’s screenshot tool, you can capture exactly what you see on your screen, you can share the images with others or use them when creating documents or for troubleshooting purposes.

Opening the screenshot tool

There are several ways to access the screenshot tool.

  • Using the menu bar icon: On the menu bar click the screenshot tool (it looks like a pair of scissors over a dotted outline) if you don’t see the icon on the menu bar, click the three little dots in the top right corner and then click the settings menu. Select appearance from the menu on the left and then click the toolbar menu. Scroll down and use the slider next to screenshot to turn it on so that it appears on the menu bar.
  • From the menu: Click the settings menu button on the toolbar (the three little dots in the top right corner) and then click screenshot.
  • Right click: Right click and choose screenshot from the right click menu.
  • Shortcut keys: Press ctrl+shift+s on your keyboard.

Capturing a screenshot

After opening the screenshot tool, you will have the option to capture a selected area, the screen area or the full page. Choose the type of capture you want to take and then use your mouse to drag and capture a selected area or click the mouse button to capture the screen area or the full page.

  • Selected area: This captures just what you select by dragging your mouse across the screen.
  • Screen area: Captures what is visible in the current Edge window.
  • Full page: Captures the entire webpage, even the parts you would have to scroll down to see.

After the screenshot has been captured you can use the editing tools to mark it up and edit it. You can save the file, share with others or copy the screenshot to the clipboard so that you can paste the image into other programs.
