Our computers are busy places, and we’re often distracted by notifications and other activities taking place while we are working.
Windows 11 has a feature called Focused Sessions inside the clock app which allows you to quiet the notifications for a set amount of time. When enabled the computer will enter do not disturb mode, notifications will be silenced, and you won’t see apps flashing in the taskbar calling for your attention.
The primary purpose of the app is to reduce distractions and improve time management and productivity.
Using Focus Sessions
Open the Windows Clock app by clicking the clock icon on the taskbars or by typing clock in the search box.
If using the system tray icon use the (+) and (-) to set the time for the session and then click the Focus button. The session will begin, and you will see a “Do not disturb” icon in the system tray. The session will end after the set time, or you can end the session early by clicking the clock in the system tray and then clicking “End Session.”
If using the clock app, use the up and down arrows to set the time for the session and click the “Start focus session” button.
If you select a time greater than 30 minutes, you will have breaks in between. If you wish to complete the task without a break, click on the Skip breaks option.
If you have selected the break option, you will hear a notification sound when it is time for the break.
Once the session has started you can click the pause button to pause the session or click the end sessions button in the system tray to end it.
